What is The Birth Book?
My second book, The Birth Book: An OB-GYN’s Guide to Demystifying Labor and Delivery, will be published in March 2026 by Rodale, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
I’m writing it because there isn't a single book written by an OB-GYN that focuses exclusively on the birth experience.
I know—I don’t get it either.
As an educator on social media, I’ve seen firsthand just how hungry pregnant people are for honest, evidence-based information about what actually happens during labor and delivery. And as a practicing OB Hospitalist, this is my area of expertise. I am uniquely qualified to help make this process more transparent, and I feel that I must.
The day your baby arrives is one of the most significant days in your life—and yet it’s often shrouded in mystery, confusion, or fear. Too many books give pregnancy the spotlight and leave the actual birth itself as an afterthought. But when you aren’t prepared for how your baby actually arrives, anxiety can win out over what should be a very empowering moment.
And we can’t afford that. Not now.
Birth in the United States is in crisis. We have the highest maternal morbidity and mortality rates among developed nations. Black and brown women face disproportionately poor outcomes. And in a political climate where pregnant bodies are treated as battlegrounds, patients feel ignored, dismissed, and deeply underserved.
I’m an OB-GYN who’s working to change that—from the inside. And this book is my contribution to a more transparent, more empowering, and safer birth experience.
The Birth Book is the guide I wish every patient had: one grounded in clinical expertise, lived experience, and a deep respect for the people giving birth. It’s a tool for anyone who wants to feel informed, confident, and in control on the day they meet their baby.
Because every birthing person deserves that.
This newsletter will serve as a companion to my book, weaving in current events and news as it pertains to pregnancy and birth. I hope you find it useful in your journey, and I’m thrilled to have you here.

All my educational content on The Birth Book Companion is and always will be free. I do not believe in putting crucial information behind a paywall.
I don’t know if you know this about me, but other than some help with editing my YouTube videos (because, ugh), I do this all myself—all while actively practicing as a physician, too. Most days I spend a few hours in the realm of content creation, whether it’s researching for upcoming posts or responding to comments to debunk misinformation. My DMs are filled with people who want reliable information about reproductive health in these uncertain times.
So if you want to support me so that I can keep bringing this content here as well as on my other socials to you—know that I truly appreciate it. But it’s not required.
Let’s stay and informed and empowered, friends.
